More of the over-50s are taking sat-navs on holiday with them, comparenow.com reports.
The over-50s are joining their younger peers in taking electronic devices away with them on holiday. The devices in question are not games machines or music players, but sat-navs.
Research by holiday firm Saga found that 70 per cent of over-50s taking gadgets away with them, with sat-navs topping the chart, ahead of MP3 players and eBook readers.
The results show that many older travellers are looking to rent a car on their holidays and are ensuring they have all the kit to make their life easier. This, however, could end up increasing insurance premiums if the luggage contents are more expensive. For this, the holidaymakers are having to consider whether to take their own sat-navs or hire them as part of the car rental deal.
Speaking to totalinvestor.co.uk, chief executive of Saga Insurance Roger Ramsden explained: "The fact that people are taking more expensive gadgets on holiday with them, does have an impact on their travel insurance.
"People could become a target for thieves, so we would advise them to make sure they have adequate cover for their belongings before they travel and to make sure they register the loss of any of their belongings with the local police straight away, as not doing so could lead to problems when they try to make a claim."
